TLDR Coffee extract and caffeotannic acid can help treat hair loss.
The study aimed to identify 5a-reductase inhibitors from plant extracts for treating androgenic alopecia using an in vitro model. The enzyme activity was measured by the reduction rate of testosterone concentration via HPLC. Various herbal extracts were screened, and the active components were isolated using preparative HPLC. Coffee extract and its active compound, caffeotannic acid, demonstrated significant enzyme inhibition activity. The study concluded that using an in vitro model combined with preparative HPLC is an effective method for discovering new active compounds for androgenic alopecia treatment.
