TLDR Alhydran and DermaCress moisturizers are more effective and cost-efficient for scar hydration than silicone gel.
The study compared the effectiveness of well-balanced moisturizers (Alhydran and DermaCress) to fluid silicone gels in treating hypertrophic scars. Conducted with 36 healthy volunteers, it found that moisturizers, which contain bio-active ingredients and humectants, provide superior long-lasting occlusion and hydration compared to silicone gels. This suggests that moisturizers can effectively restore the skin barrier and treat scars without interfering with the healing process, challenging the traditional reliance on silicone-based treatments.
