TLDR Some burn patients grew extra hair in areas treated with pressure garments or silicone.
The study reported on 7 burn patients who developed acquired localized hypertrichosis, characterized by excessive and abnormal hair growth, following the use of pressure garment and/or silicone therapy intended to prevent hypertrophic scar formation. The adverse effects of these therapies included rash, skin breakdown, cessation of scar responsiveness, pruritus, contact dermatitis, and dry skin. The findings highlighted a potential side effect of a common post-burn treatment, suggesting the need for awareness and monitoring of hypertrichosis in patients undergoing these therapies.
