TLDR Scalp psoriasis in China mostly affects young adults, worsens with stress, and significantly impacts quality of life.
A large-scale survey conducted in 42 hospitals across 11 provinces and 4 municipalities in China examined 3,901 patients with scalp psoriasis, yielding 3,586 valid questionnaires. The study found that the average age of onset was 27.4 years, with a male to female ratio of 1.6:1. The most commonly affected area was the hairline of the forehead (74.3%), and the primary clinical presentation was scaling (92.1%). Seasonal changes, emotions, stress, and fatigue were significant aggravating factors. The quality of life was negatively impacted in 70.5% of patients, particularly in social and outdoor activities. Treatment primarily involved topical corticosteroids and non-hormonal drugs, but only 38.6% of patients adhered to the treatment regimen for 3-5 weeks. Patients preferred treatments that were effective, safe, and easy to apply.
