TLDR Scalp psoriasis in China mostly affects young adults, worsens with stress, and significantly impacts quality of life.
The study surveyed 3,901 patients with scalp psoriasis across 42 hospitals in China, obtaining 3,586 valid questionnaires. The average onset age was 27.4 years, with a male to female ratio of 1.6:1. The forehead hairline was the most affected area (74.3%), and the most common symptoms were scaling (92.1%), erythema (80.6%), and itching (76.7%). Seasonal changes, emotions, stress, and fatigue were major aggravating factors. Scalp psoriasis negatively impacted the quality of life for 70.5% of patients. Combination therapy, particularly with topical corticosteroids, was common, though compliance was low due to unsatisfactory drug responses. Patients preferred treatments that were effective, safe, and easy to apply.
