TLDR Timely treatment and prevention are crucial to avoid serious complications in hair transplants.
Scalp necrosis is a rare but severe complication following hair transplantation using the Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) technique. This study reviewed four cases from 2012 to 2021, where patients aged 18 to 45 experienced symptoms like pain, eschar, and necrotic lesions shortly after the operation. Treatments included local and systemic antibiotics, debridement, and wound care, with varying recovery outcomes. The study underscores the need for technical improvements and better perioperative management to reduce such risks. Despite treatment, some grafts did not survive, highlighting the necessity for improved preventive measures. Early identification and comprehensive management, including broad-spectrum antibiotics and proper surgical techniques, are crucial for better outcomes and graft survival rates.
