TLDR Scalp hair characteristics vary across different regions of India and can help identify a person's origin.
This study aimed to differentiate the morphometric features of scalp hair from various regions of India, which were categorized into six regions: north, south, west, east, central, and northeast. A total of 300 hair samples were collected, with 50 samples from each region, to estimate and compare their morphological and metric features. The research was motivated by the need for region-specific characteristics to aid in the identification of individuals from different parts of India based on their hair, which is a valuable piece of biological evidence in forensic investigations.
