TLDR Working in non-Covid-19 wards and night shifts is linked to higher infection rates among Italian nurses.
The study investigated the relationship between work characteristics, nutritional supplement intake, and the onset of SARS-CoV-2 infection among Italian nurses. It found significant associations between the type of work, working in a Covid-19 ward, and regular meal consumption with the onset of infection. Notably, 53.7% of infected nurses worked night shifts, and 44.3% worked in non-Covid-19 wards. Additionally, 53% reported regular meal consumption. The study suggests that ward type is significantly related to the frequency of infection, with 55.5% of those infected working in non-Covid-19 wards. The findings indicate a need for further research on the role of nutritional supplements in immune function.
