TLDR Unripe Rubus occidentalis extracts may help treat benign prostatic hyperplasia.
The study investigated the effects of unripe Rubus occidentalis extracts (UROE) on benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) using a prostate cancer cell line and a testosterone-induced BPH rat model. UROE treatment significantly decreased the expression of androgen-related genes, such as androgen receptor (AR) and prostate-specific antigen (PSA), in the LNCaP cell line. In the rat model, UROE reduced prostate weights and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels, similar to the effects of finasteride. Histopathological analysis confirmed that UROE suppressed testosterone-induced prostatic hyperplasia. These findings suggested that UROE could effectively inhibit BPH development and might be a potential treatment for BPH.
