TLDR Robotic surgical systems are being used more in plastic and reconstructive surgery due to their precision and control, improving patient outcomes and satisfaction, despite challenges like high costs.
Robotic surgical systems are increasingly being used in plastic and reconstructive surgery due to their accuracy, stability, and ease of control. These systems have been applied in microsurgery, breast reconstruction, transoral robotic surgery, maxillofacial surgery, and hair transplantation. The MUSA, a robotic platform designed for microsurgery, has shown improved patient outcomes and feasibility in treating breast cancer-related lymphedema. Robotic systems have also been used in breast reconstruction, with studies showing less bleeding, high postoperative patient satisfaction, and decreased postoperative pain and complications. In hair transplantation, the ARTAS Robotic System has improved the accuracy and efficiency of follicular unit extraction. Despite these advancements, there are still challenges in applying robotic systems to plastic surgery, including the lack of automation, the complexity of soft tissue operations, and high costs. However, the widespread use of robotic surgical systems in plastic and reconstructive surgery is expected to increase with technological advancements.

Clinical studies by Dr. Barghouthi and Dr. Bloxham indicate that Verteporfin, when used with FUE and FUT hair transplantation methods, shows promise in hair follicle regeneration and minimal scarring due to its ability to inhibit Yes-associated protein (YAP). Microneedling at depths of 3-3.5mm, combined with Verteporfin, could potentially reactivate dormant follicles, although the optimal dosage and application method are still under investigation. Concerns remain about the DHT sensitivity of regenerated follicles, highlighting the need for further research to optimize trauma levels and Verteporfin concentrations to achieve effective and scar-free hair regeneration.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

The conversation is about someone considering a hair transplant due to ineffective hair loss treatments, with suggestions ranging from trying a hairpiece to continuing with medications like finasteride and minoxidil, and waiting for new treatments. Some advise against a transplant due to the extent of hair loss and the cost, while others share different views on the effectiveness of transplants and non-surgical options.
