TLDR The robotic system for hair restoration surgery works well, giving similar results to manual techniques after 9 months.
In 2019, a case study was conducted to evaluate the use of a novel robotic system for hair restoration surgery in men diagnosed with androgenic alopecia. The study involved a 46-year-old male with androgenic alopecia, Norwood Grade 3, who underwent a follicular unit excision (FUE) hair transplantation procedure using the robotic system. The system harvested 1723 follicular unit grafts containing 4222 terminal hairs from the patient's donor area. Of these, 1034 grafts were implanted using the robotic system, and 689 were implanted manually in the recipient area. Nine-month follow-up images showed increased hair density in treated areas, consistent with results using common manual hair transplantation techniques. The study concluded that the robotic hair restoration platform is clinically useful in follicular unit excision and implantation in hair transplantation cases, with 9-month results consistent with current manual techniques.
