Retinoids, derived from vitamin A, are effective dermatological agents used in treating skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis, and skin aging, including photoaging caused by environmental factors like UV radiation. Despite their efficacy, the use of retinoids in cosmetics is limited due to their susceptibility to degradation and safety concerns, leading to restrictions on retinoid concentration and the banning of retinoic acid. This review discusses various retinoid types, including retinol, tretinoin, and adapalene, highlighting their therapeutic uses and the challenges associated with their application in cosmetic and dermatological treatments.
