TLDR Red and near-infrared light-emitting fabric may help improve psoriasis, PMLE, and alopecia areata.
This pilot study investigated the effects of red and near-infrared emitting fabric technology on psoriasis, polymorphous light eruption (PMLE), and alopecia areata (AA) in 14 patients over 12 weeks. Participants wore garments made from Lumiton® fabric, which emits red/NIR light. Results indicated improvements in 3 psoriasis patients, with 2 showing reduced lesion severity, no flares in all 3 PMLE patients, and improved Severity of Alopecia Tool (SALT) scores in 3 AA patients. However, the small sample size and concurrent use of other treatments limit the ability to attribute improvements solely to the fabric technology, necessitating further research to confirm these findings.
