TLDR Raltegravir may cause hair loss in some patients.
This case report described a 47-year-old HIV-positive woman who experienced alopecia after starting treatment with the antiretroviral drug raltegravir. The patient had been HIV-positive for 15 years and was on various antiretroviral treatments. After switching to raltegravir, she noticed hair loss in the right temporoparietal area, which she attributed to the new medication. Upon discontinuing raltegravir and switching to darunavir/ritonavir, her hair loss resolved within two months without any loss of immunovirological control. This case highlighted a previously unreported side effect of raltegravir, as alopecia had not been associated with integrase inhibitors before.
