TLDR An HIV patient's complete hair loss was reversed after switching from lopinavir/ritonavir to nelfinavir.
A 62-year-old HIV patient experienced alopecia totalis of the scalp, eyebrows, and eyelashes 18 months after starting antiretroviral therapy with lopinavir/ritonavir, efavirenz, and stavudine. The alopecia reversed completely within 2 months after substituting nelfinavir for lopinavir/ritonavir, with no other changes in treatment. This case was notable as it was the second reported instance of lopinavir/ritonavir-associated alopecia totalis in the international literature.
