TLDR Hirsutism greatly lowers the quality of life for Turkish women.
This study evaluated the quality of life in 40 Turkish women diagnosed with hirsutism, a condition of excessive hair growth, using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) assessment. The mean age of the participants was 21.4±6.98 years. The study found that hirsutism significantly impairs the quality of life among these women, as indicated by the average DLQI score of 8.83± 5.66. This was independent of their modified Ferriman-Gallwey (mFG) scores, a system used to evaluate the degree of hirsutism. The DLQI scores of the hirsutism patients were significantly different from a control group of 18 patients without hirsutism (p<0.01). The study concluded that hirsutism is a significant issue affecting the quality of life of Turkish women, regardless of mFG scores.

Finasteride was intentionally developed to treat BPH and later approved for male pattern baldness (MPB) due to its 5AR inhibition effects. The delay in MPB approval was due to concerns about off-label use for female hirsutism and the prioritization of treating a more debilitating condition.
