TLDR Hair restoration surgery can improve happiness, confidence, and social aspects of life, especially in younger patients with early hair loss.
In 2008, a study was conducted to investigate the psychological impact of hair restoration on patients' lives. The study involved male patients with pattern baldness who had undergone their first hair transplant surgery one to three years prior. A total of 200 questionnaires were sent out, with a response rate of 18% (37 patients). The questionnaire focused on eight major criteria associated with hair loss, including general happiness, energy level, feeling of youthfulness, anxiety level, self-confidence, outlook on the future, and impact on sex life. The results showed significant improvements in all eight criteria, regardless of the stage of baldness or age of the patients. The most significant changes were observed in the categories of sex life and career experience, particularly in patients with less advanced stages of hair loss. Younger patients showed a more significant change in their future outlook following hair restoration. The study concluded that hair restoration surgery can potentially reverse psychosocial problems associated with hair loss, particularly in patients who experienced hair loss at an early age.
