TLDR Hair loss severity is linked to depression, not anxiety, in Filipino men, with older, less educated men with more hair loss at higher risk.
The study, conducted on 145 Filipino male patients aged 18 to 65 with androgenetic alopecia (AGA), found that while anxiety was not statistically linked to the severity of AGA, depression was, especially among those with severe AGA. Only 0.7% of patients were satisfied with their treatment due to perceived ineffectiveness. The research identified older age (50+ years), lower education level, and moderate to severe AGA as risk factors for depression. These findings suggest that these demographic and clinical factors significantly affect the psychological well-being and self-image of AGA patients, and should be taken into account when developing management strategies for this condition.
