TLDR Alopecia negatively affects quality of life and mental health.
The study assessed the quality of life and prevalence of depression in 237 patients with androgenetic alopecia or alopecia areata, using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). Results from 218 eligible questionnaires indicated that alopecia had a moderate effect on quality of life, with 38.07% of patients severely affected, and 37.61% showing a depressive tendency. A positive correlation was found between DLQI and CES-D scores. Factors such as age, gender, education level, or number of visits did not affect DLQI scores, but the number of visits and DLQI score were identified as risk factors for depressive tendencies. The study concluded that alopecia impacted both the quality of life and mental health of patients.
