TLDR Itching can be an early sign of hyperthyroidism.
A 43-year-old woman experienced severe pruritus and significant hair loss, which led to the discovery of hyperthyroidism, indicated by an elevated serum protein bound iodine (PBI) level of 10.7 μg/100 cc. Additional symptoms included diminished heat tolerance, poor appetite, and weight loss. This case highlighted that pruritus, without visible skin disease, could be an initial symptom of hyperthyroidism.
