TLDR PRP therapy for hair loss showed improvement in most patients but is not yet proven by evidence.
The study, conducted at North Bengal Medical College, Sirajganj, Bangladesh, assessed the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy for hair loss treatment in 100 patients with patterned hair loss, consisting of 84 males and 16 females. The age range of the majority of patients was between 31 to 60 years. The results showed that 32% of patients saw very good improvement, 48% good improvement, 8% average improvement, and 12% poor improvement. Side effects included bruising in 8% of patients and pain in 12%. After 4 months of treatment, the average hair count increased by 40% and the average hair shaft diameter increased by 56%. However, the study concludes that while PRP is a novel therapy, it is not an evidence-based therapy for the treatment of alopecia.
