TLDR Skin problems in Timbi were linked to jobs, education, and often improved by treating related health issues, but were worsened by steroid misuse.
The study, conducted 6 years ago, examined 9500 cases of dermatological conditions in the tribal area of Timbi, Saurashtra. The researchers found that occupation and literacy level had a correlation with the nature, occurrence, and pattern of skin diseases. They also noted that skin diseases were often related to systemic diseases, and treating these systemic diseases drastically improved skin conditions. The study highlighted the issue of irrational and improper use of steroids, with half of the complications observed being due to steroids. The most common conditions were Tinea, eczema, and psoriasis, but cases of pellagroid dermatitis and zinc dermatitis were also observed. The study emphasized the need for education and awareness about skin diseases and the misuse of steroids.
