TLDR Most pregnant women experience skin changes, especially increased pigmentation.
A six-month study involving 250 pregnant women found that skin changes are common during pregnancy, with pigmentary changes being the most prevalent, observed in 98% of the cases. Specific pregnancy-related skin conditions were found in 6.8% of the cases, with atopic eruption of pregnancy being the most common at 4.8%. Fungal infections were present in 9.6% of the cases, and one case of psoriasis was worsened by pregnancy. The study concluded that pregnant women are more likely to experience skin changes, and a thorough history and knowledge of clinical presentation are necessary for diagnosis.
