TLDR Biochemical markers help diagnose ovarian tumors in postmenopausal women.
This study examines postmenopausal hyperandrogenism (PH) due to ovarian diseases, featuring a case report of a 60-year-old woman whose condition resolved after surgery. The scoping review analyzed 280 PH patients, distinguishing 174 tumorous from 106 non-tumorous cases. Tumorous cases showed lower BMI, LH, and FSH levels, but higher testosterone, DHEA-S, 17-OH progesterone, and estradiol levels. Specific biochemical markers were identified to differentiate between tumorous and non-tumorous cases, with no PH recurrence post-surgery. The study highlights the effectiveness of surgical treatment and the use of radiological exams for diagnosis, though its findings are limited to surgically treated cases.
