TLDR Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment can significantly increase hair count and thickness in people with Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) with minimal side effects.
In 2017, a study involving 40 participants with Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment. The participants were divided into two groups: one received PRP injections and the other received saline injections. After 6 months, the PRP-treated group experienced a 24.7% increase in hair count and a 49% increase in hair cross-section, while the saline group only saw a 3.5% increase in hair count and a 1% increase in hair cross-section. The study concluded that PRP treatment showed promising results in treating AGA with minimal side effects. Another study on 26 volunteers also showed significant increases in hair density and thickness after PRP treatment, suggesting that PRP stimulates hair growth by activating antiapoptotic regulators and upregulating certain signaling pathways. However, further validations were noted as necessary.
