TLDR Platelet-rich plasma treatment can effectively improve hair loss, especially in younger patients under 40 without other medical conditions.
The study "Usefulness of Platelet Rich Plasma in Androgenetic Alopecia" conducted at the Dermatology Department of Pak Emirates Military Hospital in Pakistan involved 50 patients with androgenetic alopecia. The patients were treated with platelet-rich plasma every four weeks for three sessions. The results showed that 72% (36 out of 50) of the patients had satisfactory responses, while 28% (14 out of 50) did not achieve a satisfactory response after the twelve-week treatment. The study found a statistically significant relationship between the absence of comorbid medical illness, younger age (less than 40 years), and a satisfactory response to the treatment. The conclusion was that a significant number of patients with androgenetic alopecia responded well to platelet-rich plasma treatment, especially those without any comorbid medical illness and those under the age of 40.
