TLDR Platelet preparations generally show positive effects on wound healing and facial rejuvenation, but more thorough research is needed to confirm their effectiveness.
The document critically reviews the use of platelet preparations, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM), in facial rejuvenation and wound healing. It compiles findings from 61 reports, including in vitro studies, animal studies, and case series/clinical trials. The majority of these studies show positive effects of platelet preparations on cellular activity, wound healing, and aesthetic outcomes, such as enhanced fat graft survival, increased hair follicle formation, and improved skin conditions post-laser resurfacing. Some studies specifically highlight the potential of PRP in treating androgenetic alopecia by increasing hair density and count. Despite the favorable outcomes, the review points out the possibility of publication bias and the need for more robust randomized controlled trials with objective measures to fully ascertain the efficacy of platelet preparations in medical applications, including their role in hair loss treatment.
