Application of Plasmapheresis in the Treatment of Total Alopecia in Children

    Н. В. Пац
TLDR Plasmapheresis effectively treats total alopecia in children by reducing lead levels and promoting hair growth.
The study focused on treating total alopecia in children from ecologically unfavorable regions with high levels of heavy metals. It was found that increased lead and copper levels in plasma and urine were associated with the development of total alopecia. The treatment method using plasmapheresis was developed and analyzed in two groups of children. Plasmapheresis effectively reduced lead levels in plasma and urine, corrected microelemental imbalances, and resulted in positive hair growth regeneration, which was not achieved with the use of Spirulina platentis. A patent for this treatment method was issued in Belarus in 1998.
