Application of Plasmapheresis in the Treatment of Total Alopecia in Children

    Н. В. Пац
TLDR Plasmapheresis effectively treats total alopecia in children by reducing lead levels and promoting hair growth.
The study investigated the effectiveness of plasmapheresis in treating total alopecia in children from areas with high heavy metal exposure. It involved 31 children aged 6 to 14, with 11 receiving plasmapheresis and 20 taking Spirulina platensis supplements. Plasmapheresis significantly reduced lead levels in plasma and urine, corrected microelement imbalances, and resulted in positive hair regrowth in 63.6% of cases, a result not achieved with Spirulina. The study concluded that plasmapheresis was an effective treatment for total alopecia in children by addressing the microelemental imbalance caused by heavy metal exposure.
