A Review on Phytopharmacological Significance of Eclipta Alba

    The document reviews the traditional uses, chemical composition, and pharmacological activities of Eclipta alba, an herb used in traditional Indian medicine. It has been traditionally used for liver health, hair rejuvenation, and treating various ailments. Scientific studies have shown that Eclipta alba has hepatoprotective, antidiabetic, memory-enhancing, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, antibacterial, antioxidant, and hair growth-promoting activities. Specifically, the plant's extracts reduced hair growth time and increased the number of hair follicles in the anagenic phase in male albino rats. It also exhibited antiulcer, anticancer, antimicrobial, and antivenom activities. Key phytochemicals such as wedelolactone, luteolin, and apigenin have been identified. The review concludes that Eclipta alba has validated traditional uses and potential for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications.
