TLDR Water extracts of Spondias mombin bark helped rats recover from cancer symptoms.
The study investigated the phytochemistry and efficacy of Spondias mombin bark extracts on cancer induced in rats. The bark contained alkaloids, saponins, tannins, phenolic compounds, and eugenol. Rats treated with water extracts showed significant recovery from cancer symptoms, such as reduced food intake, hyperplastic nodules, weight loss, hair loss, and reduced agility, compared to those treated with alcohol extracts or the control group. Histopathological analysis revealed significant recovery in the colon, liver, heart, small intestine, and lungs with water extract treatment, but no significant differences were observed in the kidney and eye tissues.
