TLDR Arjuna flowers have specific features and compounds useful for their identification and standardization.
The study conducted on Terminalia arjuna flowers aimed to establish pharmacognostical standards for their identification and standardization, as they were traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine for preventing baldness and graying of hair, among other ailments. The research involved collecting flower material from Bengaluru, India, and performing macro-, microscopical, physicochemical, and phytochemical analyses. The microscopic examination revealed features such as combretaceous-type trichomes, calcium oxalate crystals, tannin content, resin ducts, and pollen grains. Preliminary phytochemical screening identified the presence of carbohydrates, phenols, proteins, saponins, and tannins. These findings provided a basis for the botanical standards necessary for the identification and standardization of T. arjuna flowers.
