TLDR Arjuna flowers have specific features and compounds useful for their identification and standardization.
The study conducted a pharmacognostical evaluation of Terminalia arjuna flowers, which were traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine for preventing baldness and graying of hair, among other uses. The research aimed to establish identification and diagnostic characteristics for these flowers. The flowers were collected, authenticated, and subjected to various analyses, including macro- and microscopical studies, physicochemical tests, and preliminary phytochemical screening. The results revealed the presence of combretaceous-type trichomes, calcium oxalate crystals, tannins, resin ducts, and pollen grains. Phytochemical screening identified carbohydrates, phenols, proteins, saponins, and tannins. These findings provided botanical standards for the identification and standardization of T. arjuna flowers.
