The Study of Development of Permanent Wave for Additives of Collagen

    Hana Lee, Hee-Sook Cho
TLDR Using 2% collagen in perms reduces hair damage while keeping curls.
This study investigated the effects of collagen on hair during permanent wave treatments by analyzing changes in curl formation, thickness, tensile strength, methylene blue absorbance, and moisture loss. It was found that applying collagen reduced hair thickness, tensile strength, absorbance, and moisture loss compared to using a reductant alone. Higher collagen concentrations resulted in less hair damage, but also decreased curl formation. The study concluded that a 2% collagen concentration was optimal for minimizing hair damage while maintaining curl formation in permanent wave treatments.
