TLDR Topical peptides may offer safer, effective pain relief and healing for wounds.
This review highlights the potential of topically applied peptides as an alternative to conventional pain management strategies for wound-related pain, which is often inadequately addressed in clinical care. Traditional systemic analgesics, such as NSAIDs and opioids, pose risks of adverse effects, including delayed wound healing. The review discusses recent innovations in therapeutic peptides with analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative activities that could improve wound healing outcomes. It also addresses challenges in delivering peptides across compromised skin barriers and explores strategies to overcome these limitations, suggesting future directions for peptide-based wound therapies.
