TLDR Head lice mainly affect children and are treated with special lice-killing products.
Pediculosis capitis, a global public health issue, primarily affected children aged 5-11, with higher incidence in girls and lower in Black children. Transmission occurred mainly through direct head-to-head contact, and pruritus was the most common symptom. Diagnosis relied on finding live lice or viable eggs in the scalp. Pediculicides were the most effective treatment, and all household members and close contacts needed concurrent examination and treatment if infested. Children could return to school post-treatment but should avoid close head contact and sharing hair-related items.
