TLDR A new low-cost method can accurately detect PCOS early by measuring free testosterone levels.
This study explores a novel approach for diagnosing Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) by measuring free testosterone levels using Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) with gold nanostars. Involving 56 women aged 17-45 with PCOS, the research successfully obtained high-resolution Raman spectra to detect low free testosterone levels (1.7 nmol/L) with a significant enhancement factor of 59 * 10^5. The findings suggest that this low-cost technique can efficiently enable early detection of PCOS by accurately measuring serum-free testosterone concentrations.
