TLDR More grafts and longer surgeries increase the risk of hair loss in the donor area after FUE hair transplants.
This study investigated acute donor effluvium (ADE) following Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplants, focusing on cases with high graft extraction and surgeries extending to a second day. Conducted as a retrospective cross-sectional study, it involved 30 male patients with a mean age of 33.9 years. The study found that ADE was more prevalent in cases where more than 4,000 grafts were extracted, occurring in 93.3% of cases, and when the surgery lasted more than one day, seen in 73.3% of cases. The severity of hair loss in ADE was directly correlated with the number of grafts harvested, highlighting the increased risk associated with extensive procedures.
