Various Parental Actions in Overcoming Chemotherapy Side Effects in Children with Leukemia at Dr. Moewardi Hospital Surakarta

The study explored various actions taken by parents to manage the side effects of chemotherapy in children with leukemia at Dr. Moewardi Hospital, Surakarta. It involved 20 respondents and used a descriptive method with purposive sampling. Key findings included that 75% of children experienced nausea, managed by giving eucalyptus oil; 75% experienced vomiting, addressed with anti-nausea medication and warm water; 40% had hair loss, leading parents to cut their hair; and 35% had mouth disorders, treated with medicine and syrup. Other side effects included bruising, diarrhea, decreased appetite, fatigue, increased infection risk, anemia, dry skin, and constipation, each managed with specific parental actions such as dietary adjustments, rest, and hygiene practices.
