TLDR Periplaneta americana extract helps hair regrowth in alopecia areata by reducing inflammation and balancing skin bacteria.
The study investigated the effects of Periplaneta Americana extract (PA-011) on alopecia areata (AA) in mice, focusing on its anti-inflammatory and microbiota-modulating properties. Results showed that PA-011 promoted hair regrowth by enhancing hair follicle cell proliferation and reducing inflammatory markers such as TNF-α, IL-23, and VCAM-1. It also activated the Wnt3a and TGF-β pathways, regulated metabolic pathways, and reversed AA-induced changes in skin microbiota, promoting beneficial bacteria. These findings suggest that PA-011 could be a potential therapeutic option for AA by alleviating skin inflammation and restoring microbiota balance.
