TLDR Ozone bagging therapy effectively heals horse limb wounds.
This study assessed the efficacy of ozone bagging therapy on eight horses with chronic distal limb wounds unresponsive to conventional treatments. All horses achieved complete wound closure within 27 to 91 days, with most showing normal skin and hair regrowth and minimal scarring. The therapy improved wound contraction, epithelialization, and antimicrobial activity, likely due to enhanced tissue oxygenation and stimulation of angiogenesis and fibroblast activity. Despite the absence of a control group and lack of histological or microbiological evaluations, the findings suggest ozone therapy as a promising complementary treatment for refractory equine wounds, warranting further controlled research to validate these results.
