Herd Report: Outbreak of Mixed Dermatophilosis and Pox Infection in Camels (Camelus Dromedarius) in South Iraq

    Muna Tawfeeq
The document reported an outbreak of mixed dermatophilosis and pox infection in camels in South Iraq, characterized by extensive skin matting and dark brown scabs, with young camels being more severely affected. Factors such as stress, skin damage, tick infestation, increased humidity, rainfall, and malnutrition contributed to the severity. Treatment with long-acting oxytetracycline and potassium iodide achieved a 100% cure rate, supplemented by vitamin A and minerals for faster recovery. Dermatophilosis could also affect humans, causing lesions that typically healed within 2-3 weeks. The disease spread through direct contact, insect bites, and viable bacteria in scabs.
