TLDR Most nonbald men's multi-hair follicles are naturally positioned perpendicular to a line from the scalp's crown, which is important for natural-looking hair transplants.
The study examined the orientation of multi-hair follicles in 100 nonbald men and found that the majority of these follicles were oriented perpendicular to the radial line from the crown swirl, with a higher percentage in the peripheral and middle scalp areas (49-79%) and a decrease in the vertex area (38-49%). The orientation was consistent regardless of whether the crown swirl hair flow was clockwise or counterclockwise. The findings suggest that for hair transplants, multi-hair grafts placed perpendicularly would mimic the natural look of hair in the front half of the scalp. The study also highlighted the importance of follicle orientation in reducing damage during hair transplant procedures. Further research was recommended to investigate hair follicle characteristics in women.
