TLDR The "Opus-5" diode laser is effective for treating oral submucous fibrosis.
The study conducted by Innovate Smile Design Centre in Surat, India, evaluated the efficacy of using the "Opus-5" diode laser for the surgical management of oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF). Traditional treatments, including general, medical, and surgical methods, had unpredictable results due to the unknown pathogenesis of OSMF. Surgical treatments provided immediate relief from trismus but often resulted in scar formation and recurrence. The use of graft materials to prevent these issues had drawbacks such as donor site morbidity and infection. The study aimed to assess the long-term effects of laser excision of fibrous bands in OSMF, as previous methods did not offer a complete cure.
