    The document highlighted the significant cardiovascular benefits of olive and olive oil (OO), which are integral to Mediterranean culture and cuisine. Various studies, including in vitro, in vivo, and clinical trials, confirmed that OO and its bioactive compounds, such as oleuropein (OLE) and hydroxytyrosol, offer strong antioxidant protection, reduce chronic inflammation, and mitigate oxidative stress. OLE, in particular, was shown to inhibit reactive oxygen species production and stabilize mitochondrial membrane potential, reducing cardiomyocyte injury. In vivo studies demonstrated that OLE decreased lipid peroxidation and protein carbonyl levels in rabbits and reduced doxorubicin-related cardiotoxicity. Clinically, extra-virgin olive oil lowered cholesterol and blood pressure, reducing cardiovascular disease risk by at least 35%, and provided benefits for patients with stable coronary heart disease.
