TLDR Chemotherapy and radiotherapy do not significantly affect obstructive sleep apnea development.
This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the development of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Out of 559 papers, 17 studies were eligible for meta-analysis. The analysis found no significant effect of chemotherapy or radiotherapy on the development of OSA. There was a modest, nonsignificant trend towards increased mild OSA in patients receiving radiotherapy, but no discernible impact from chemotherapy on mild or moderate OSA. The study concludes that current literature is limited to small-scale studies, and larger studies are needed to better understand the relationship between cancer treatments and OSA development.
