TLDR Obese children respond worse to CARP treatment than non-obese children.
This study investigated the impact of obesity on treatment outcomes for confluent and reticulated papillomatosis (CARP) in a pediatric cohort of 92 patients. The majority of patients (75%) were obese, and treatments primarily included oral minocycline or doxycycline, with some receiving topical therapies and weight loss recommendations. The study found that non-obese patients had a significantly higher response rate to treatment compared to obese patients (100% vs 77.5%; p = .038). No specific treatment was linked to better outcomes, highlighting a significant relationship between obesity and poorer treatment response. The study suggests the need for prospective research to confirm these findings and to explore the role of weight loss and optimal medical therapy for CARP.
