TLDR Antioxidants helped reduce prednisolone dosage and improved hair growth in alopecia areata patients.
This study investigated the impact of nutrient antioxidants (vitamins A, E, and C) on reducing the dose of prednisolone in patients with alopecia areata. The findings indicated that a two-month therapy with these antioxidants allowed for a reduction in prednisolone dosage from 100 mg to 10 mg every other day, while also enhancing hair growth. The antioxidants appeared to mitigate the damaging effects of free radicals on the immune system, thereby reducing immune complex deposition. This suggested that nutrient antioxidants could play a significant role in protecting the immune system and minimizing the side effects associated with high doses of corticosteroids.
