TLDR The method effectively mimics shaving damage on skin for testing skincare products.
The study developed an in vitro method using tape strip exfoliation and human skin equivalent (HSE) technology to simulate the skin barrier damage caused by shaving. Results showed that tape stripping effectively induced barrier dysfunction, increased transepidermal water loss (TEWL), epidermal thickening, and elevated pro-inflammatory cytokines, mimicking the effects of shaving. The model demonstrated robustness and reproducibility, making it suitable for screening shaving regimens and their effects on skin health. The findings support the use of this platform for in-depth biological analysis and high-throughput screening of shaving-related skincare products.
