TLDR Finasteride causes reduced tear flow and severe eye inflammation.
The study evaluated the effects of finasteride on tear secretion and inflammation of the lacrimal gland in rats. The results showed that finasteride administration resulted in reduced tear flow and severe inflammation of the lacrimal gland, leading to a sex steroid-deficient dry eye model. The study suggests that finasteride may contribute to the pathophysiology of dry eye and highlights the importance of investigating dry eye to determine its pathogenesis and relevant therapies.
