TLDR Japanese females generally have longer, denser, and curlier eyelashes than males.
The study examined the characteristics of eyelashes in 50 healthy Japanese individuals in their 20s, focusing on length, density, form, and angle. It found that mean eyelash lengths for the upper eyelids were 7.33 mm in males and 7.47 mm in females, while lower eyelid lengths were 4.98 mm and 5.56 mm, respectively. Eyelash density was higher in females, with 15.24 for upper and 6.24 for lower eyelids, compared to 12.12 and 5.80 in males. Curly eyelashes were more common in females, especially on the upper eyelids. The mean angles of eyelashes were greater in females for both upper and lower eyelids. These findings provided baseline values for eyelash reconstruction or treatment for eyelash hypotrichosis in Japanese adults.
