TLDR Niosomes improve delivery and effectiveness of cosmetic ingredients.
The review explores the use of niosomes, non-ionic surfactant-based vesicular nanocarriers, in cosmetics for targeted and sustained delivery of active compounds. Niosomes can encapsulate both hydrophilic and lipophilic substances, offering enhanced stability and skin permeation. They are prepared using methods like thin-film hydration and sonication, and have shown improved skin benefits, such as anti-inflammatory and anti-aging effects. Notably, niosomes with rice bran extract show potential for anti-hair loss products due to 5α-reductase inhibition. Despite their advantages, challenges like stability issues and batch variability remain. Future research should address these challenges to fully realize the commercial potential of niosomes in cosmetics.
