TLDR A new hair transplant method showed promising results and a study found how deep a CO₂ laser can penetrate skin.
In 1997, a review introduced a new linear method for hair transplantation that showed promising results, being equal or superior to traditional methods in terms of graft visibility, hairline naturalness, hair density, and patient satisfaction. This technique allowed for the transplantation of 2000 to 3000 hairs within 2-3 hours, and a patent was pending for the associated punch device. Additionally, the review covered cutaneous laser surgery for various skin conditions and future trends in the field. A specific study with four Caucasian women investigated the penetration depth of the Ultrapulse CO₂ laser, revealing that one pulse affected the epidermis, two pulses removed the entire epidermis, and three pulses reached the papillary dermis, although actual surgical practice would likely involve higher energy and different techniques.

The conversation is about someone considering a hair transplant due to ineffective hair loss treatments, with suggestions ranging from trying a hairpiece to continuing with medications like finasteride and minoxidil, and waiting for new treatments. Some advise against a transplant due to the extent of hair loss and the cost, while others share different views on the effectiveness of transplants and non-surgical options.
